Zempt Development Ending

From Adam Kalsey’s blog: The tool that Bill Zeller and I created for posting to Movable Type from your desktop is being wound down. Zempt will live on at the SourceForge project page, but there will be no future development on the project. The domain has expired and will not be renewed. All the source and the latest Windows installer are up on the SourceForge project page if anyone wants to continue development on this handy tool. The original intent was to release on Mac and Linux as well, but I’m not sure how far they got with that. Adam…

Amazon S3 Simple Storage Service

Amazon’s Simple Storage Service just launched: Amazon S3 is storage for the Internet. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. Google Toolbar SpellCheck

From my previous entry about the SpellBound Firefox extension, comments had suggested checking out Google Toolbar which now includes spell check, but be aware that it sends data back to Google servers. It looks like all this stuff launched yesterday (Monday, February 13). Here’s the scoop from the new UI blog: This blog is the companion blog for two libraries we’re proudly releasing today. The new Yahoo! Design Pattern Library offers our thinking on common interface design issues for traditional and rich Internet applications. The new Yahoo! User Interface Library is a collection of industrial-grade JavaScript utilities and widgets…

Suspicious Update Messages

Firefox 1.5 now has an update to 1.5.0.1. I’m not sure what happened to the in-product indicator, but it seems to have been replaced by a new dialog (see below). Maybe the in-product icon was too subtle and hard to notice, but this new dialog looks a lot like those pop-up ads that proclaim “Your PC may be infected! Click now!”. On the positive side, the update does have a link to learn more about the update, compatibility warning for extensions that might not work, and the opportunity to update later. To be most effective and not appear to be…
